Sad turn out tonight…only Patrick and I with one volunteer who had to leave early. Come on guys…anyone out there feel inspired to join the Thursday night fun?
Anyways, tonight was all about getting ready for the Shepherd dinner tomorrow night and I must say they are in for quite a treat! By the end of the shift, Patrick and I had conquered three parts of their meal for tomorrow. That is called man power!
First off we boxed up some delicious meals for Hospice, Project Horizon and LexPres. Their meal was some pork chops, au gratin potatoes, curried vegetables and a cheese Danish twist pastry. Yum! And I must say taking the temperature of the foods is 100000x easier with the snazzy new professional yellow thermometers.
Third, Patrick went to town rubbing down the ribs with some homemade spice rub he made. Patrick made his own crazy (but delicious) rub that had paprika, chile powder, black pepper and some other great smelling herbs. He is very excited to cook those babies tomorrow and get them fall off the bone juicy!
Lastly, it was time to make the vegetarian option for tomorrow…ratatouille. After cubing eggplant, peppers and zucchini we let those veggies sweat out in a saucepan with some olive oil and garlic. After the vegetables were nice and soft, we took them off the heat and combined them with diced tomatoes (canned), parsley, basil, salt and pepper. It smelled delicious! Then with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese, it was wrapped up and put in the fridge for a second heating tomorrow.
As you can see, the shift was busy busy busy so anyone out there in need of a thursday night study break…I suggest you join us and get cooking!
