Big Day for the Garden

Yesterday there was all sorts of excitement at the Campus Garden.  We started off bright and early planting broccoli (two different plantings worth so our season should stretch a bit) and cabbage.  Our favorite compost tool, the chickens, had done great work and our first row planted resembled real soil instead of clay!  It’s about time- 4 years of incorporating campus leaves! Bill took some pictures so they should be up on the Sustainability at Washington and Lee Facebook page soon.

We also had the picnic tables we ordered from the Rockbridge Area Occupational Center delivered.  I absolutely love how this relationship has worked- we serve lunch twice a week at the Occupational Center so the employees there are our clients.  We also gave them business when we received grant money from YSA’s UnitedHealthcare Heroes to purchase tables to support our Seed to Feed nutrition education program.

It was a great day at the garden!
