This summer the Campus Kitchen at Washington and Lee will be introducing summer campers to fresh and local foods grown in our own Campus Garden. And each student will have a passport to show for it- drawing pictures of the food items they try and rating them with star stickers. Last week we started with an introduction to the project- we explained just exactly what our Campus Kitchen does. We discussed the difference in taste and nutritional value between local produce and what we find at the grocery store. We handed out passports, taste tested watermelon, and are ready to roll at the garden from here on out.
Today we will hold our first session at the garden. The vegetable of the day is Sweet Potatoes (and what better snack could you ask for than sweet potato fries). The Y’s “Tigers” are joining us to learn about how all potatoes grow underground, and to help us as we grow our own.
